Based on a folk tale (or maybe two?) I read somewhere...
Thomas & Annabelle were blessed (cursed?) with eternal life
& were very much in love. A jealous witch who pined for
Thomas' affection, cast a spell to prevent him from being
with his beloved. Annabelle would die, leaving Thomas
alone eternally.

Annabelle would come back to life every few hundred years,
but, she would have no recollection of her previous life or self.
Yet each time, she would eventually, and all too briefly,
encounter Thomas, and then depart again.

Having only a few years at a time to do so, Thomas would
have to find a way to break the curse. If he did not find
the counter spell, Annabelle would die again...
…and so the cycle would continue.
